The world of projectors has largely expanded in the last few years. In years past digital projectors were associated with computer funds and business organizations which employed their service in boardrooms and business conferences. Today projectors have largely filtered into the home and classroom. Individuals are now transforming their home entertainment area into a fully fledged theaters competing with the cinema house in town. At the center of this development are projectors.

These developments mean that’s more and more people and organizations are making a decision to purchase a projector. On face value it does seem as if acquiring a projector is a simple task. However in reality it is a mine field on its own essentially because of factors such as the price, the quality and functionality of projectors and replacement bulbs. Today there are tens of projector models on the market from different manufacturers. These include names such as Vivitek, Epson, InFocus, Panasonic, Optoma and many others.

The first and foremost important tip when choosing a projector is to know and be clear about what the purpose of your projector is. This in other words means one needs to be sure and clear about what they would like to have the projector do for them. There are a number of things people buy a projector for including classroom use mounted on the ceiling, traveling presentations using a laptop, boardroom presentations, conference presentations, home theater use and so on.

If your projector purpose is for on-the-road presentations you will certainly need something of lightweight and portable that will not add a lot of weight to your baggage. For home use most individuals buy DLP projectors which are 3D ready and HD compatible. These give absolutely clear and sharp picture for your enjoyment of latest DVDs and movies. If you are using the projector in a dusty place or at night outside you will need further investigation concerning which projector to buy with easily accessible and cheaper bulbs. Projectors used in such environments have a shorter life for the bulb due to the dust and bugs that are attracted by the light during night projection.

The following are practical tips in choosing your new projector;

1. First establish what the purpose of your projector will be
2. Traveling presenters need light weight projectors for use with laptop
3. Compare technical specs of projector against your needs e.g lumens, contrast ratio
4. Verify replacement bulb cost to determine possible future expenses on projector
5. Finally read as many reviews as you can find online and compare prices. Buying online is cheaper.

Success, A Powerful Witch

Success, symbolizing happiness, are always embraced eagerly by us. She is like an angel, an angel who is always standing there, watching over you; an angel who never fails to encourage you to keep on fighting when you meet difficulties.

But to me, success is an intangible evil. Success, a powerful witch. Only by waving her wand, she can envelope you with satisfaction. Then the endless satisfaction makes you easily forget who you are and where you are. More seriously, you will find yourself live without goals. And instead of goals, your brain will be encumbered with dreams, unrealistic dream. It is in this way the evil with, the witch guised in the name of success, destroy you.

These are some fragments I wrote down when we were asked to write a speech in Prof. Chen’s class. Do you find there is any problem? Yes, lots of problems. It should be a speech, not a prose. There is parallelism. There is repetition. However, a speech prefers to spoken language. And mine, in fact, is more like a prose, isn’t it?

All the excitement brought by the composition of this text disapeared immediately when I read out it in front of Rita and Wiko. There is no use applying such poetic words. There is no point using such beautiful images…

The speech, however, is not the first incident that has thrown me into blues. The TEM-8 composition, which I finished it last night with great efforts, is the first and also the main reason. But it’s interesting for me to find that what I write should fit to my first blue so well.

Unlike my first TEM-8 composition, the paper this time is completely a flop. Last time, I got a mark of 18 out of 20 and the paper was read out aloud by Prof. Chen in class. This time, the number written with red pen is striking again, but in the quite opposite way, it writes 2.

“It’s totally wrong.” said Prof. Chen. She use “totally wrong”. She uttered “totally wrong” only after she had read my introduction.

It’s totally wrong, for my paper is off the topic. On self-respect. It should be argumentative paper, not a narration. It should consist of thesis statements and arguments to support ideas. It requires you not to definite “self-respect”, to explain what constitutes it, to inform how to cultivate it. A thesis statement and evidences. Do you know?

So, just what I have written in my speech, I was and maybe still am encharmed by success, the intangible and evil witch. I fail to get rid of the power of her wand, and even I close to her and taste her mysteriousl liquid…Stop here, for I have found myself using these languages and images at this moment……

See, it’s become my favorite devices for writing. I enjoy writing in this way, for my diary, for my prose, for my poem. But the fact it’s that all those I need to hand in must be in academic forms. I am not good at, and sometimes even don’t want to be good at in this field…

But, I am supposed to handle it, even to master it……

There are many talk going around that next year will usher in the end of the world. While its believers are divided on how exactly this will take place, there is a small but loud contingent that is sure that the Earth will experience a collision (or near-collision) with an unknown planet or Planet X. About 40 years ago, astronomers discovered many smaller planets the size of Pluto beyond the planet Neptune (called “trans-Neptunian objects). They started to posit that these could be the tenth planet. Little did these astronomers know that an ancient culture knew about this planet way before they did.

The Sumerians found astronomical facts that would astound scientists today. Ancient Astronomer Zecharia Sitchin proposed in his tome. The 12th Planet, that they, discovered that a large planet nearly grazes the Earth every 3,600 years. The proximity to the other planet to ours allows the natives of the other planet to communicate with Earthlings. Sitchin wrote that he believes the last time this unknown planet came near ours was in 556BC. A quick calculation will show that the next arrival of this planet will be in 2900AD.

So if this planet does exist and if it will nearly collide with ours, it will supposedly come in 2900AD, long after we are all gone, why are people predicting the end in 2012?

Another theory related to Planet X states indeed a planet will collide with ours and it is called Nibiru. Richard Muller, a physicist, said that the reason why dinosaurs became extinct was because of a similar occurrence. A dwarf planet that goes around our Sun every 26 million years will come so close to the Earth that it will wreak the same destruction.

Non-believers in Planet X dismiss all these claims as a hoax. Government agencies like NASA have not reported and such astrological object to be nearing us and say that even amateur astronomers should be able to see something coming with their telescopes. There have been many theories that have been shot down as well, especially since these predictions of a collision have never taken place when they should.

Many people believe that the government is purposely hiding information about Planet X so that the news will not cause worldwide panic. It’s difficult to know what to believe but if you think about it, how can anyone be safe from a planet hitting our own?

I watch movies, like many others, mostly for entertainment purposes. When a movie comes to an end, no matter how appealing to me, I usually brush it off immediately, for I believe movies are just movies. They are meant for fun primarily.

However, the movie I saw recently is an exception. The scenes lingered on in my mind. It was not that the movie was a little scary; it was not a problem for me. For one thing, until the film ended, I still could not be sure which parts in the movie were reality and which parts were just the actress’ hallucinations. More importantly, I feel very sorry and a bit sad for Nina, the lead ballerina, who died at the end of the film when she finally achieved her goal to be perfect in the role she played.

Nina is an innocent beautiful diligent but a little fragile girl. She wants to play the lead role in the famous ballet Swan Lake when the company decides to choose a new dancer as the Swan princess. Being a nice girl, plus her hard work, she dances the White Swan impeccably, for it symbolizes beauty and kindness. Naturally, it is extremely hard for her to dance the Black Swan, which symbolizes evil and debauchery.

The two parts, however, have to be played by one person. According to the story of the ballet, a princess is turned into the White Swan and can only be turned back if a man swears eternal fidelity to her. However, her bubble is burst by the Black Swan, the evil magician’s daughter, who is transformed by her father to look exactly like the White Swan. The Black Swan manages to trick and seduce the prince. Being sad and hopeless, the princess commits suicide because the prince’s infidelity has doomed her to remain a swan forever.

Facing such a great challenge, Nina is determined to play these two roles the best ever. She practices hard and devotes herself to the preparations of the performance. However, no matter how she tries, the director in charge will never be satisfied with her role of the Black Swan, saying that she hasn’t capture the sensuality of the swan. He even dances with her as a partner himself, and touches her to arouse her sexual desire. In order to get the feel of being evil and debauched, she even goes to a night club at the invitation of Lily and hooks up with a man. Despite her desperate effort, she still feels insecure, for there’s an alternative, Lily, who is always trying to steal the role from her.

Feeling defeated in her attempt to be perfect, combined with the worsening relationship with her mom, Nina is under enormous stress. Consequently, she begins to hallucinate. Just on the day of the official performance, she hallucinates again in her dressing room and stabs herself, thinking she is stabbing Lily and eventually kills her. She takes the stage, anyway, and begins to dance with passionate abandon. She dances the part of the Black Swan better than ever and the audience is amazed, giving her a standing ovation when this piece of dance ends.

In the final act, in spite of her wound, she dances the White Swan beautifully, which entrances the audience. They are so intoxicated that they don’t see the small stain of blood growing in her mid-section of her white costume. Finally, the White Swan commits suicide, and Nina, the dancer, is also at the end of life. The last words she utters are: “I was perfect.” She dies among the roaring applause of the audience.

Girls of summer

We lived on the banks of the Tennessee River, and we owned the summers when we were girls. We ran wild through humid summer days that never ended but only melted one into the other. We floated down rivers of weekdays with no school, no rules , no parents, and no constructs other than our fantasies. We were good girls, my sister and I. We had nothing to rebel against. This was just life as we knew it, and we knew the summers to be long and to be ours.

The road that ran past our house was a one-lane rural route. Every morning, after our parents had gone to work, I’d wait for the mail lady to pull up to our box. Some days I would put enough change for a few stamps into a mason jar lid and leave it in the mailbox. I hated bothering mail lady with this transaction, which made her job take longer. But I liked that she knew that someone in our house sent letters into the outside world.

I liked walking to the mailbox in my bare feet and leaving footprints on the dewy grass. I imagined that feeling the wetness on the bottom of my feet made me a poet. I had never read poetry, outside of some Emily Dickinson. But I imagined that people who knew of such things would walk to their mailboxes through the morning dew in their bare feet.

We planned our weddings with the help of Barbie dolls and the tiny purple wild flowers growing in our side yard. We became scientists and tested concoctions of milk, orange juice, and mouthwash. We ate handfuls of bittersweet chocolate chips and licked peanut butter off spoons. When we ran out of sweets to eat, we snitched sugary Flintstones vitamins out of the medicine cabinet. We became masters of the Kraft macaroni and cheese lunch, and we dutifully called our mother at work three times a day to give her updates on our adventures. But don’t call too often or speak too loudly or whine too much, we told ourselves, or else they’ll get annoyed and she’ll get fired and the summers will end.

We shaped our days the way we chose, far from the prying eyes of adults. We found our dad’s Playboys and charged the neighborhood boys money to look at them. We made crank calls around the county, telling people they had won a new car. “What kind?” they’d ask. “Red,” we’d always say. We put on our mom’s old prom dresses, complete with gloves and hats, and sang backup to the C.W. McCall song convoy, ” which we’d found on our dad’s turntable.

We went on hikes into the woods behind our house, crawling under barbed wire fences and through tangled undergrowth. Heat and humidity found their way throught he leaves to our flushed faces. We waded in streams that we were always surprised to come across. We walked past cars and auto parts that had been abandoned in the woods, far from any road. We’d reach the tree line and come out unexpectedly into a cow pasture. We”d perch on the gate or stretch out on the large flat limes tone outcrop that marked the end of the Woods Behind Our House.

One day a thunderstorm blew up along the Tennessee River. It was one of those storms that make the day go dark and the humidity disappear. First it was still and quiet. There was electricity in the air and then the sharp crispness of a summer day being blown wide open as the winds rushed in. We threw open all the doors and windows. We found the classical radio station from two towns away and turned up the bass and cranked up the speakers. We let the wind blow in and churn our summer day around. We let the music we were only vaguely familiar with roar through the house. And we twirled. We twirled in the living room in the wind and in the music. We twirled and we imagined that we were poets and dancers and scientists and spring brides.

We twirled and imagined that if we could let everything — the thunder, the storm, the wind , the world — into that house in the banks of the Tennessee River, we could live in our summer dreams forever. When we were girls.

Along with the development of economic, our living standard has reached an ever higher level. As a consequence,an increasing number of students pursue for famous brands to satisfied their selfish desire. They spend an ocean of money on the famous brands in spite of their parent’s hard working.
Why students pursue for famous brands and how to account for this phenomenon. First and foremost, they have no notion of money, and they don’t know how difficult their parents earn money. Some students never study hard but puesue for famous brands. Our parents sent us to school just for a good result of our future. Besides, they want to be in higher level among their classmates and be proud of it. Last but no least, they regard the famous brands as a symbol of fashion, they always want to be ahead of fashion.
I hold the view that students’ pursuit for famous brands is irresponsibility. Our parents make money with extremly hard working. We should respect them and study hard in return to them. The famous brands is not forever,we must have responsible to our parents.

Last night, my best friend Emily told me that her bf asked her to marry him. Actually they have been living together for more than 2years with emily’s family. However, she was freaked out by turning from a girlfriend to a wife, from a daughter to a host of a family. She can’t face the change which is in the soon future.

I imagined that if i was getting married, i would must be like her. So i told her that i know exactly what she feels and we went shopping last night. I asked her to do what she like the best among the complicated process of preparation of getting married. For instance, to pick the candies which are going to be hand out to the guests, or to decide where they should take the couple photos. After things are prepared one by one, maybe you would not think it is difficult to face then. And as for me, i would like to decide what to dress as a bridesmaid.

Hope that I could actually make her feel better and I’ll be with her whenever she needs me.
